Susie is an abstract mixed media artist who primarily works with alcohol inks on *Yupo. The fourth of six girls, Susie grew up in a creative household with a crafty mom and a dad who does woodworking in his retirement. Art has always been a part of Susie’s life—as a child, she was lucky to take art lessons from her watercolorist grandma, Chris Ardelean, and also master watercolorist J. Anna Roberts. Susie graduated from Marian University in 2009 with a degree in Graphic Design. She is currently the Marketing & Art Manager at the Frankfort Community Public Library in Frankfort, IN. She lives in Jamestown, IN with her husband, Evan, and beagle/basset, Walter. All of the handmade panels used in her work are made by her dad, Dave. Susie finds inspiration from all aspects of life: nature, poetry, pop-culture, spirituality, ancient symbols, and her relationships. She is in love with the process of creating fluid art and hopes her joy comes through in the finished product.
*Yupo is a smooth, non-porous synthetic paper. Alcohol inks are light-sensitive. The resin I use protects the artwork from UV rays. Non-resined artwork is covered with a UV-protective spray. Although I take these steps to protect the artwork, I recommend displaying the art out of direct sunlight to ensure its vibrancy can be enjoyed for many years to come.
