Laurie Alvear

Laurie Alvear is a local artist who works out of her home studio in Carmel, Indiana. A life-long artist, she studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, earning dual degrees in graphics and fine arts.

Alvear began her career as a graphic artist with AT&T while also working on many freelance and commissioned jobs. After taking a hiatus to raise her family, she taught elementary school art for many years, all the while continuing to create her own artwork.

Alvear is a versatile artist who paints primarily in watercolor, although she enjoys using a variety of media. The beauty of nature, light, detail, pattern and color all influence her painting, which is a blend of realism with impressionistic elements. Her body of work ranges widely, including illustration, wall murals, and needle-felted and wet-felted wool.

She is a member of several art associations and has been awarded and recognized in many exhibitions. Memberships include the CCA Gallery, DuPage Art league, and the Nature Artists Guild of the Morton Arboretum.
