James Dupler

Growing up in Jamestown, New York, and acquiring his first turning lathe at the age of ten, Jim Dupler has pursued a life-long career in woodworking. He has learned the craft of furniture making from German, Swedish and Italian craftsmen. He operated a successful custom furniture and antique repair business in New York, where he was much in demand at the famous “Chautauqua Institution” as well as in Canada and Maine.

After his move to Indianapolis in 1994, due to his wife, Miriam’s transfer with Chautauqua Airlines, his love of woodturning has drawn him to concentrate on creating art pieces, which have consistently brought him first prize at various art shows held in the Indianapolis area. Jim is sought out for his teaching, lectures and demonstrations in the Indianapolis area and enjoys sharing his passion and experience with others. Some of his experience includes:

• Instructor at John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC

• Regular Instructor at Rockler and Woodcraft stores

• Regular member of the CCA Galley, Carmel, IN

• Work featured in the Indianapolis Museum of Art gift shop

• Numerous demonstrations at Indianapolis Woodworking Clubs

• Assisted Matthew Hill at a vocational school in Oklahoma City

• Assisted Matthew Hill at Marc Adams School in Indianapolis

• Consistent winner at the Ohio Artistry in Wood show

• Featured in several national magazines
